The town of Red Lion was named after the Red Lion Tavern, an iconic business that had been passed down through generations. The tavern was around as early as the 1840s and was in operation for years before it was renamed the “Red Lion”. The tavern was passed on to the original owner’s daughter and son-in-law. They named it after the “Red Lion” tavern that the son-in-law’s family had owned in England. To signify its name, a bright, red lion was painted on the front of the building. The building was purchased by Jacob Hake in 1863 who used the building as a private residence. It remains at 271 North Main Street Today.
If you are ever visiting Red Lion, be sure to visit Lion Bowl, the local bowling alley that locals have frequented for years. It has a small and intimate feeling, and the building is located just down the street from the Red Lion Area High School.
After bowling, grab a bite to eat at Central Pizza & Italian Restaurant which serves delicious pizza.
